Snapshots from West Bengal

Written by Jane Harris No Gravatar

  • 180 degree mountain view comprising the world’s first and third tallest peaks
  • Intensively farmed slopes around Darjeeling
  • A party of Australian school girls learning leadership skills
  • The unbridled joy that a hot water bottle can bring
  • Clear star filled nights
  • Nepal to the left of me, Bhutan to the right
  • A two year old child living at 3400 metres with a face more weathered than my own
  • Millet beer and rice wine
  • Crossing the narrow gauge tracks of the Himalayan ‘toy train’ railway

Love the picture of the hut – who needs a brick build house or flat – just a homely shed, a stove and ah lots of blankets by the sound of things :-)

Wow – I can just imagine the smell of the burning wood in that hut
